Embracing innovative engineering solutions, all building services are seamlessly integrated within the iSPAN Composite TotalJoist floor system, ensuring efficiency and functionality. Spanning an impressive 104,500 square feet, the building comprises 93 thoughtfully designed units. As the trusted team of Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers of Record, we collaborated closely with our design partners including ISM Architects, iSPAN Systems, and Bertram Construction (Ontario) Ltd. The foundation of the building rests on sturdy concrete foundations complemented by the reliable iSPAN Total Framing System. Elevator shafts and stair walls are reinforced with strategically placed concrete shearwalls. Each suite features a precast balcony or a terrace space, providing residents with an outdoor sanctuary to relax and unwind.
In addition to our engineering expertise, we also provided the Developer with comprehensive coordination services. As the dedicated Coordinating Consultant, we meticulously managed the flow of design information, led productive design meetings, and ensured the seamless integration of various disciplines. Our attention to detail and commitment to design intent resulted in a harmonious and well-coordinated project.
This project originally was an existing mid-1900’s single-storey cottage located in Severn, On. The existing 950-sq.ft. footprint was enlarged by adding a 500-sq.ft. addition to the North & East of the existing structure. While challenges arose due to the various zoning requirements & waterway guidelines, we were able to meet all the requirements & provide a newly transformed getaway that met all the needs of our client. The existing 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom cottage was increased to have a total of 5-bedrooms and 1 ½-bathrooms. New interior finishes, upgrades to the existing windows, recladding w/ horizontal wood siding and cedar shake accents really brought a welcoming warmth to the old shack on the lake. A 300-sq.ft. Bunkie was also added to accommodate additional space for guests & family to enjoy family gatherings on the lake for years to come.
As part of the master transit plan for Collingwood, ON, a 600-sq.ft. transit washroom facility was constructed on the corner of Second Street and Pine Street. The building consisted of two washrooms with a janitor’s closet, a waiting area, and a covered entrance.
As the Structural and Civil Engineers of Record, we worked closely with Formwork Inc., Architects and HL Engineering Ltd on the design. The building shell is placed on poured concrete foundations and consists of masonry block walls and a wood trussed roof with steel lintels over the windows. The exterior shell consists of a brick skirt and then continues upward with an EIFS system.
GEL was responsible for the Preliminary and Detailed design, preparation of Tender Specifications, Construction Cost Estimates, Contract Administration and Inspection for the reconstruction and widening of approx. 0.3km of Regional Road 24 in the Town of Caledon, Region of Peel. The assignment was carried out to create truck turning lanes at the entry to the Lafarge Pit. Design work included optimization of horizontal geometry for turning lanes, roadside hazard assessment, the staging of construction to maintain services to affected residents, and traffic management to maintain flow of traffic throughout work zone.

As Mechanical and Structural Engineers of Record, we oversaw the design for the installation of the paint booth, working with Flatline Spray Booth Specialists to design the venting system and supports for fume exhaust. Our assessment also covered material usage, facility layout, filters, and exhaust specifications, meeting the requirements for environmental registration under the Ontario Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR). Air modeling and analysis of odour and noise were conducted to ensure compliance with Ministry standards.
Spacious 5,000-sq.ft. bungalow w/ an attached three car garage designed for an estate lot North of Barrie, On. This design offered 4-bedrooms & 4-bathrooms, large eat-in kitchen adjacent the formal dining room & attached to a welcoming great room w/ a gas fireplace, vaulted ceiling, and an abundance of natural light from two roof dormers at the rear of the dwelling. The great room walks out to a sizeable, covered rear porch looking out to a grand in-ground swimming pool. The building is clad w/ brick veneer & natural stone w/ horizontal wood siding accents throughout.
Ontario is working to improve community safety and better support modern policing operations by constructing Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) facilities across the province. Within the Country of Brant, Ontario, the Ontario Provincial Police provides community policing through the Police Services Board.
Working alongside Formworks Architect Inc., we are the civil and structural engineers of record for this 20,000-sq.ft. OPP Station including a detention area, security function area, and a repair bay. The building sits on poured concrete foundations, with a steel super structure designed for post-disaster loading. The exterior finish is brick and siding.
Situated just 23km west of Barrie, Ontario, CFB Borden holds a significant place in history as the birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Today, it proudly serves as the largest training wing in the Canadian Armed Forces. In collaboration with the esteemed team at LGA Architectural Partners, we had the privilege of serving as the Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers of Record for a remarkable project at CFB Borden. Our expertise was showcased in the design and construction of 12 apartment units spread across two buildings, with each building housing six units.

The Joint Operations Centre (JOC) is the first building of its kind in The Town’s history. The JOC received a LEED Gold Standard which includes a few green design considerations to create a healthy and efficient working environment while decreasing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
We provided project management, detailed design, contract administration and inspection, and warranty administration on the 4.7ha facility and associated structures of the new Aurora Public Operations Centre. Design included site servicing, grading, and storm water management.

As the proud Structural Engineer of Record, we collaborated closely with the design and construction team, including ISM Architects, Inc., iSPAN Systems, and Wycliff Homes. The building’s foundation is firmly rooted in concrete, serving as a solid base for the entire structure. The iSPAN Total Framing System has been employed to create the building’s framework, providing strength and stability. Reinforced concrete shearwalls were strategically implemented to shape the elevator shafts and stair walls, enhancing durability and safety and provide lateral load resistance.
